Top Dancehall Artist 2017 - The year 2017 was a very good year for Dancehall Music. A number of artists secured international collaboration which also helps to put dancehall music back on the front burner.
The year saw a number of artists stepping up their musical game, And there was a few break-out artist, but the big question is who was the top dancehall artist for 2017.
Let's start with the new artists who had a good year:
Aidonia - Without a doubt, Aidonia had one of the best years since he started his recording career. For 2017 he had bangers such as Hot Tool, Fire, Breeze feat. Deablo aka Govana and the summer anthem 'Yeah Yeah Yeah' feat. Govana.
Popcaan - The number #1 collaboration for 2017 in our opinion is "We Pray" Popcaan featuring Dre Island. His single "Family" was one of the most played songs on the radio and in the parties. Popcaan's collaboration with British animation group The Gorillaz enabled the 'Unruly Boss' to top Billboard's Reggae Digital Song Sales chart for the first time in his career. Saturnz Barz is released by Parlophone/Warner Bros.
Vybz Kartel "Worl Boss" - Although he is behind bars, Kartel's music is not. Vybz Kartel continues his dominance with a number of chart-toppers in 2017. He became the first artiste to have a game built around one of his song "Mhm Hm".
Alkaline - Toted to be the next big dancehall artist coming out of Jamaica, Alkaline did not disappoint in 2017 as he released countless hits during the year. Two songs that really stood out for the Vendetta Boss are "Red Eyes" and "Pretty Girl Team". His concert "New Rules" which was held in Kingston, Jamaica was also a huge accomplishment for Alkaline, due to the number of patrons who attended the event.
Mavado "Gully Gad" - For Mavado 2017 was a good year, not a great one. His two major hits for the year was "Fresh Cash" and "No Freaks". This is open for debate.
Ding Dong - For 2017 Ding Dong and his Ravers Clavers crew continue their dominance in the dancehall with their creative dance moves. They had the biggest dancehall dance song for 2017 "Fling Yuh Shoulda".
We must also mention Agent Sasco aka Assassin, his single "Winning Right Now" was indeed a winner among dancehall and reggae music fans worldwide. Although he can be classified as a dancehall artiste, presently he is doing mostly Reggae Music.
Three other artists who we must mention for their stage performance in 2017 are Spice, Shenseea, and Tommy Lee Sparta.
We could not end 2017 with making mention of the controversial Ishawna, she too had a good year due to her tongue wagging single "Equal Rights".
