Hottest Lyrcial War Between Dancehall Artists

Hottest Lyrcial War Between Dancehall Artists - For decades, fans of Dancehall Reggae music have enjoyed lyrical confrontation in the Dancehall industry.

Hottest Lyrcial War Between Dancehall ArtistsBeenie Man and Bounty Killer

Since Dancehall music became prominent in the late 1980s, there has been numerous lyrical confrontation between top Dancehall entertainers.

While some of these confrontations were sometimes physical in the past, Dancehall and Reggae music insiders are saying a little clash now and then is good for the genre. It also helped in some cases to propell the artists' involved career.

Listed below are some of the most notable ones:

In the early 1990s there was the Ninja Man vs Shabba Ranks, Ninja Man verses Merciless and Ninja Man verses the Don Dadda Supercat.  Although there were other minor clashes in that era, those mentioned above took the cake.

The late 1990s to early 2000s, two of dancehall music's titans were at odds. These were Bounty Killer and Beenie Man.  This lyrical war was at times so intense, it even got physical, with fans of both artists turning on each other in the streets.

Then came the Gully verses the Gaza Empire war, and yes I said war because this was not only lyrical but it spill over into all sectors of the Jamaican society.  This lyrical war in dancehall was between Mavado who led the Gully Side team and Vybz Kartel which was head of the Gaza side. I should mention that Mavado and Vybz Kartel were both members of the Bounty Killer led Dancehall Alliance.

One of the most outrageous and Nasty Lyrical War in Dancehall was between the then Queen of Dancehall Lady Saw and Macka Diamond. This War was also very disgusting and degrading on a personal level.

From school students to the street corners gangs, everyone took sides.  There were confrontations between different schools, selectors got beaten for playing too many songs from one side, it was so intense that the Government of Jamaica had to call in both artiste to settle their difference.

After the Gully versus Gaza war, we had some minor scuffle between Tommy Lee Sparta vs Alkaline, Jahmiel vs Vershon, Tommy Lee Sparta vs Jahmiel and Popcaan vs Alkaline. All of which was short-lived.

In 2019 a lyrical war was started between a new upcoming dancehall sensation by the name of Squash and his team the 6ix against Alkaline and his Vendetta Clan. At the time of writing this article, it was still ongoing with each team firing lyrical shots at each other.
