Suzie Wong 1980 v. Suzie Wong 2015 … Who Do You Prefer?!

Now before you get too excited, let me just say that the 2015 Suzie Wong is different from the 1980 Suzie Wong! You see, the 1980 version came from Jacob Miller and is a Reggae classic. The 2015 version comes from performing artist Qraig (Craig from Voicemail) and doesn’t fall under the category of Reggae, but Dancehall!

As producer Nicko from Nicko Rebel Music explains, “the song was a concept I pitched to Craig of Voicemail when both EchoSlim and I finished composing the instrumental. We were reminiscing on the old school vibe and nature of old school music. Craig took that concept and ran with it!”

The concept of the song “Suzie Wong” is about Suzie Wong and her perspective of the wife versus Matey problem. It’s a time old tale with a modern twist where in 2015, these two ladies have become friends. Qraig sings: “Suzie Wong nah mash up har food / so she play wise just fih catch fool / she leave cross and angry now she ah play cool / if ah one thing she know she nah loose / she tell me say man nah go nowhere / anno now or before or time juss yesterday so unna caan stay deh….”
