Kartel’s Publishing Company to host 1st Global Social Media Debate on the Right to Bail “Company to mark Vybz Kartel’s one year of incarceration with spirited discussion”

KINGSTON, Jamaica: Fresh off attaining global recognition and being named to the

prestigious Fall 2012 Reading List for the Public Archive’s Radical Black Books, Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto by Vybz Kartel is set to create more waves in the book industry.

Ghetto People Publishing will be hosting an unprecedented global social media debate on September 29, 2012 the date representing one year since Adidja Pamer’s (Vybz Kartel)incarceration. The central theme for the discussion will be: “Is it right for a Jamaican citizen that has never been convicted of a crime to stay in jail without bail for more than a year?”

According to Chief Creative Officer Keecha Gooch, there will be sub-questions about the possibility of electronic monitoring for individuals on bail, whether or not artistes should be allowed to record while awaiting trial and overall comments on the justice system.

“This is not a ‘free werlboss’ initiative”. Our company is about bringing issues concerning the Ghetto to the forefront, essentially giving a voice to the voiceless. We need to have intelligent debates about these issues and stop the practice of casting opposing opinions aside. Social Media will allow that to occur and do so in a big and meaningful way. All the information will be
located on the web-site www.vybzkartelbook.com,” stated a very upbeat Gooch.

Organizers noted that the format is tailored to give everyone a voice. Individuals can participate via twitter, facebook, blog, the chat room, text message, email
or BB. It is the first of many that the company plans to host all based on the subject matters raised in Kartel’s book. There will be a four hour time slot from 4pm to 8pm on September 29th dedicated to the interactive segment.

The CEO of Ghetto People Publishing Michael Dawson declared: “The ‘Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto’ is a special book and the accolades attest to same. Our biggest challenge is to efficiently manage the market demand stretching from Zimbabwe to Australia, Rome to
Rwanda, global prisons, army bases, schools etc.

At the same time, we have to figure out which language next to publish in; we had thought it would be Dutch due to the large demand in Suriname but the demand in Francophone countries and France itself is surpassing every other country – though the Japanese may disagree”, Dawson said with a chuckle. “It is just great to know that we took the risk of investing in a book that we know would be fought by so many but
the content of the book is stronger than any opposition to its creation”.

Though Vybz Kartel will not be present or allowed to participate in the debate, his spirit will hover in the room as he has been adamant about using his influence to effect change for the better in Jamaica. The road is not easy when representing Vybz Kartel, that means pressure, ridicule, rejection from all sectors of society but Kartel always says “Man a anuh girl guide, man a souljah so the war between us and Babylon has just began”.
