Jellissen Sizzles With Street Dance Style - Recording artiste Jellissen is bringing the heat with her first official single, a fast paced dance track aptly titled “Street Dance Style.” The debut track was produced by Cornelius Records.
“The song is about street dances in Jamaica and it highlights a time when street dances were about people enjoying themselves through good vibes and dancing,” the songstress explained, “It also plays a part in the reanimating of Byron Lee and Bogle, two iconic figures in our culture, which brings you way back to the early 2000s.”
Released on June 21, 2019, the track has been gaining traction locally, currently being played by major DJs in Jamaica, as well as internationally, with rotations on major radio stations in Canada, the United States, Australia, Africa, England and South Korea.
The music video for “Street Dance Style” stunningly captures the beauty of locations in Downtown and New Kingston with vibrant colours and the showcasing of popular dance moves, both new and old. The visual also emulates the diversity of the singer’s style.
“I have an eclectic style so it’s hard to put me in a box but I would say at this moment, my sound could be described as modern dancehall, tropical pop and of course reggae,” she expressed.
Fresh to the music scene, the Manchester native’s interest in music peaked during her school days.
“Music was a mandatory class in prep school and I got into the groove of playing different instruments, which further led to me singing and entering JCDC competitions,” she elaborated. In 2011, while the then 13 year old singer was attending the Bishop Gibson High School, she released a single titled “Teenagers Love” which peaked on the Billboard charts at #64.
Riding high on the positive reception of “Street Dance Style” so far, Jellissen is keeping the energy flowing as she works on releasing new music, starting with another single that is set to be released soon. Her debut EP is also in the works, supported by a team that she is extremely grateful for.
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank my team – Oswald King, Cornelius Records, Father Bull, my family; without them, I wouldn’t be able to do this,” she said.
“Street Dance Style” is available for streaming and purchase on major digital platforms such as iTunes, Deezer, Amazon Music and iHeart Radio.
