Born and raise in St.Catherine, Jason Coy known as DJ Rasz was fond of music at the age of 7 where his grandmother introduced him to her love for Beres Hammond.
After his grandmother died, he moved in with his mother where he decided to learn more about the culture of music.
At age 13, he got familiar with a sound called “Angel Touch” where his mentor “Peppa” had him around turn tables and big sounds for a cost of $100/ $50 a hour for him to use the equipment.
At times,Dj Rasz would sneak out at nights just to see and hear the vibe of a sound called “WET SKIN” to know how they had a party moving. At age 16, he joined a sound called “SoUnique Supermixx” with members Dj Dumplin , Dj Chris and Dj Twitch. Dj Twitch was the one to introduce him to the sound. They promote themselves by doing karaoke, parties etc. and when they played Red Pond would come alive.
They were often touring to some parishes like Clarendon with the help of Sprogos Disco. It so happened that some members decided to do their own thing but DJ RASZ and DJ TWITCH still and forever kept representing their love for the sound. In 2007, He met producer Earl Smith of Home Grown Records who showed him what it was like in a studio and made be known to artistes like Etana, Queen Ifrica, Lutan Fyah, Christopher Martin, Bridgez, Aisha Davis just to name a few.
He then started recording as a producer and becoming responsible for the studio when Earl wasn’t around. In 2009, he started working with JCDC (Jamaica Cultural Development Centre) as an Events Co-ordinator, still directing and pleasing the crowd in the four corners of Jamaica.
His craft expanded and he met other artistes whom he voiced or got jingles from. He has worked for Delly Ranks sound which gave him more exposure as a Dj. Back when Dj Rasz was at Home Grown Studios he found himself in love with the art of making rhythms.
He’s now working on a rhythm called Isle Riddim which he hopes to be successful. So you see Dj Rasz is like no other Dj ….he’s the definition of multi-talented, driven and hardworking and up to his day he hasn’t drop the baton for the love of music.
