Recording artiste Likkle lightning
I am a roots reggae singer/songwriter from Jamaica who has been fascinated with reggae since about 13 years old.
I now have had opportunities to record my own songs that highlight different ways to happiness, love, nature and the joys from Jah, rather than crime and violence in response to poverty and hardship.
I was born Christopher Campbell in Kingston, Jamaica and lived there for some years with my father. During school holidays I lived on a farm in Westmoreland with my grandparents. I never wanted to return to the city and eventually moved permanently to the farm at 13 years old. On the farm, I learned to love nature and the value of hard work to support family.
While I lived on the farm, I went to school in the nearby beach town of Negril, and made a small amount of money selling peanuts to the tourists. I also became friends with several woodcarvers on the beach and started making my own carvings, singing and composing my own songs as I worked.
Negril is famous for its reggae parties and I took every opportunity to watch performing artists. Sometimes they even allowed me to perform single songs for which I will always be grateful! Getting my message out through the microphone is a wonderful feeling!
My first recording opportunity was with Sol Chica Productions and Amos Chip Dabney. More recently, I have recorded at Tuff Gong Studio, Kingston, under my own new label, Sonhi Productions.
You can listen to some of my tunes at cdbaby.com/artist/likklelightning, facebook.com/cclikkle. or soundcloud/likklelightning.
I now alternate between New York and Negril, Jamaica and would love to be able to present my music to a broader audience.
