Beenie Man "King Of The Dancehall"
Beenie Man "Anthony Moses Davis" was born on August 22, 1973 in Waterhouse Kingston St. Andrew.
He is also known as "Ras Moses, The Doctor, The Girls Dem Sugar" and King of the Dancehall.He started out in the music industry from a tender age of 10 years old. He was encourage by one of his uncle who was a drummer for the world renown
Jimmy Cliff.
Research are showing that he is one of the youngest dancehall artiste to have entered into the dancehall and reggae musicindustry. From an early age he was out selecting and toasting on sound systems. His first break came when he entered the Tastee Talent Contest in 1981 and came out the winner. But he would also have to give much thanks to veteran radio personality Barry Gordon (Barry G). He was the one who introduce him to some of the major
sound systems
operator in the business at that time. Beenie man's first recording came in 1981 for producer Henry "Junjo" Lawes, the track was titled "Too Fancy". He continued working with Junjo resulting in the release of his first album titled " The Invincible Beenie Man". In the early years of his career he work with producers such as "Winston Holness,
Barrington Levy
and Bunny Lee". The 1990's was the big years for Moses. After teaming up with Patrick Roberts together they formed "Shocking Vibes" recordingstudio and label. Roberts was the wind behind his career which help to launched him into the spotlight. This also help him to appear on big shows, such as Reggae Sunsplash, Ghetto Splash, Sting, Teen Splash amongst many others. With everyone now talking about him, he was the artiste to do collabs with. Artiste such as Dennis Brown, Triston Palmer, Mad Cobra and
Lady Saw
did some work with him. He had a monster hit with lady saw titled " Healing".
In 1996 Beenie man release his debut album titled "Maestro" for Roberts and Shocking Vibes. The album was a huge success in Britain and Europe. His Single “Who I Am” also did very well in Canada, United States and UK. Beenie Man has a number of number one hit singles both locally and international namely sim sima(remix), world dance, slam, dancehall queen, dude featuring Ms. Ting, Who Am I, King of The Dance hall just to name a few. He can sing, Dance, Dj, A fashion Icon and also a Selector. In Jamaica when we talk about him we just say he is the topentertainer in the business. He has over 20 studio albums with his biggest sucess being the Grammy Award he won for "Art and Life" which was released in July 2000. For his contribution to the music industry he given special recognization form the University of The West Indies, they honored him with his doctorial title, “The Doctor”. Beenie was always saying he was the king of the
dancehall
