FIrst heard this song when I was living in Barbados. Heard it in a bar in Bridgetown back around 1978. Spent many a night there drunk on Banks beer, Cockspur and Mount Gay rum.

That song has been ringing in my mind for decades too! I believe it's by Gypsy, after listening to the YouTube link below. However, I found out that Gypsy recorded a previous version of I Am A Warrior in 1978. I haven't found a video or soundbite, but 1978 sounds about right, which would be around when I was in kindergarten. According to the pic of the 45 single on discogs, he's the artist and songwriter. That has to be it! :-)
