Omi gets Billboard nomination for 2016 Music Awards
There is clearly no stopping Jamaican entertainer Omi as the accomplishments continue to stack up.
The Clarendon-born entertainer has been nominated for the “top new artist” for the 2016 Billboard Music Awards.
Omi, who gained international recognition following the remix of Cheerleader by German Dj Felix, is vying for the coveted title along with rapper Fetty Wap, Charlie Puth, Silentó and Bryson Tiller.
He is also nominated for the “top selling song” along with the likes of Adel, The Weekend and Wiz Khalifa.
Billboard Music Awards finalists are based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital songs sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music.
Canadians lead the pack in 2016 Billboard Music Awards with The Weeknd being a finalist 19 times in 16 categories. Next in line is Justin Bieber who is a finalist 12 times in 11 categories.
Meanwhile, Drake and Fetty Wap are both finalists 11 times, in 10 categories. Taylor Swift and Adele are both finalists for 8 awards.
The 2016 Billboard Music Awards will be hosted by rapper Ludacris and Ciara in Las Vegas on May 22.
