Meet Reggae Artiste Eazy Wayne
Eazy Wayne is an artiste with a deep originality, unique energy, and beautiful, passionate voice who inspires fans around the world with his music.
Wayne was born in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, to a strong Black woman who raised him with love and patience. He attended Black River High School and completed a course in electrical installation. But a career wiring buildings was not what Eazy Wayne wanted; he wanted to electrify life audiences.
He began to work on a small sound system in rural Jamaica, taking the name John Wayne. However, when he moved to the Pembroke Hall area in Kingston, his friends immediately realized his flexibility and his fluid movements onstage and gave him the tag "Eazy as Eva".
With a new name and renewed vibe, he recorded his first singe, "Girl Care Yu Body" in 1993 on the Collin Fat label. He has also worked on labels such as Xterminator, Street Acoustic and others. He collaborated with British-based singer Amharic in the single "Dancehall Days", and had two tracks, "Worries of Life" and "Armagiddeon Thing" on the very well received Pharos Frontline compilation CD that included tracks from the late great Gregory Isaacs.
Eazy Wayne's earliest musical influences were Bob Marley, Dennis Brown and Garnet Silk. He also draws inspiration from Shabba, Buju Banton and Tony Rebel, the mainstays of his more fire-breathing dancehall persona.
Eazy Wayne has appeared on stage shows in Jamaica such as Sting, GT Taylor Extravaganza, Rebel Salute, East Fest, Western Consciousness and more.
Eazy Wayne's debut album Judgement Fi Dem 2000 Degrees, was released in November 2007, after the title track single reached #10 on the French reggae chart and #19 on the 7 inch Jamaica Chart. The track enjoyed heavy rotation
on iriefm radio in Jamaica, and the Judgement Fi Dem video is still popular both "a yahd and abroad", on tv and YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-IKQCZvXSw.)
The Judgement Fi Dem 2000 Degrees album continues to fire up interest around the world with classic tracks such as "Whenever I'm Away", "On and On", "Talk to Dem" and "Warfare". "Lump Sum" -- a collaboration with Admiral Tibet and Lutan Fyah -- is a unique and wonderful interlacing of roots styles that sounds as fresh today as when it was recorded. Eazy Wayne's versatility and soulful vibe are fully present in this impressive CD, from hard-edged commentary on troubles in the world to sweet relationship songs.
Following the success of the album, Eazy Wayne toured in Europe in 2009 and 2010, performing in Italy, Germany, Austria and more, and has had invitations to perform worldwide, including in Finland, Japan, Dubai, Haiti and Gambia. Most recently he has appeared with Kabaka Pyramid in Brixton, in Wales and Newcastle with Avalanche, and on live radio interview shows including with Reggae General (UK). Eazy Wayne's tracks are enjoying radio play on stations such as Reggae Vibes Radio (Georgia, USA), Metro Radio, AfroZimRadio (Zimbabwe), One Afro Radio, Riddim Roots Radio, Jamrock Radio, Unique Radio (UK), BDS Radio One (Toronto, Canada) and Bimbache Reggae Radio Station (Canary Islands).
