Crime and violence and Dancehal Music are not strangers.
by: Keniel Huntleyy

To say dancehall does not promote crime and violence is more than hypocrisy; for those who deny the claim, both entertainers and some fans, are same people who assert that dancehall music is indeed influential. However, they will tell you that the influence dancehall music dishes out to our children is positive - and sometimes it is positive, but only when positive music is being played. So, my question is this: 'if you, the makers and supporters of music, feel that positive music have positive effects on our nation, why are you having a hard time seeing that the negative aspects of dancehall are achieving the opposite?' If a song is powerful enough to invite people to come together, don't you think that an opposing, equally powerful song can drive people apart?

Of course, there is no data to prove any correlation between crime and violence; but take a look in the inner-city communities, for example, where the dancehall culture is strongly embedded, and tell me there is no relationship between dancehall music and the crime and violence that is occurring in these communities.

So while it is not a direct factor, it is one that irritates the individual psychologically and emotionally, motivating him/her to carry out criminal tendencies.

Dancehall Music
by: KT

Years gone by Dance hall music was bashed for its violent and hate lyrics especially among gays. Now the music is turn into porn. So I must say yes it did and now u see the music is not going no where it has lost its direction. So now u see why that once all the veteran musicians are gone to rest none of these musician nowadays are singing anything positive. its sad. Dancehall is not to fully be blamed but yes it contributed i must say. Music ins influential and over the years these gun lyrics has influenced our younger generation the ones who has lost their identity or the ones who does not have father figure to show them wrong from right.
