Reggae singer Elvis D releases new  track 'Tonight'

Reggae singer Elvis D is pleased with the pace of his career growth in recent times.

The Jamaica-born artiste, who now resides in New York, also has great hope for his self-produced track Tonight.

Released last year, he hopes the track will give him more recognition both in the United States and in Jamaica.

"I have worked extremely hard over the years trying to get my career going. So, I am an extremely happy man now that things are falling in place," he told the Jamaica Observer.

Elivs D, whose given name is Elvis Downer, has done stints on Jamaica's North coast and other event. He is confident that break into mainstream will come.

"Things are coming together nicely. It's good to get your name out there in the States, but Jamaica is where the action really is," he said.

Elvis D, who migrated to America in 1986, said his love affair with music began at age 13 when he penned My Girl. Though the song never saw the light of day, he kept at it.

He joined the Marty Butler & the People's Heritage Band in New York playing the guitar and sang on a few tracks.

Hoping to establish a solo career, he entered the New York Reggae Rising Star competition in New York and placed third. This served as the inspiration for him to release his debut album Perfect Vibes in 2002.
