Dubwiser Dancehall: New track featuring EB

by DHRW
(Jamaica)

Introducing Dubwiser Dancehall, an offshoot from the renowned Oxford-based dub/reggae act Dubwiser, based around the production and songwriting talents of Jonas Torrance and Spider J.

Having previously performed with legends such as Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and Madness as well as playing alongside local heroes Radiohead and Ride, Dubwiser Dancehall arrive with an already impressive CV!

The four-track EP opens with “Eye Popper”, featuring the vocal and songwriting talents of Spider J who has close to 20 years working in music. Having produced and written for the likes of Kano and Estelle in recent times, his credits also include the first ever Jungle number one 'Original Nutter' By UK Apache. In the 80s he earned his stripes as a musician in seminal UK pop/ska bands Madness and Bad Manners. As his reputation for live performance grew, it wasn’t long before he was fronting respected ska group Potato 5 and then Acid Jazz band Night Trains.

Although happy to work across many genres, Spider’s heart and roots are in Dub/Reggae/Hip Hop. He has a long-standing role of selector/vocalist & keyboardist for the legendary Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, has collaborated with Mad Professor and Horace Andy (Massive Attack fame) and sung on early recordings for the award-winning Aswad.

Next up is “Pedantic”, featuring Scrutineer the former Execution Squodd member rouses a fire with his flowing delivery. With the likes of Ludacris and Mobb Deep having ‘Scru’ open for them in the past, here you’ll find him raising the bar yet again.

The third track on the release features EB a new producer and multi-instrumentalist from New York City. Having already made strides under a different alias last year, listen as he works his magic on “Dubwiser Groove”. His lyrical prowess which will no doubt cement his reputation as one of the hottest new talents around.

“Rise Up” features the talents of Burnt Brasse (A Guevara and Big BAM). Meeting in the 90s through a mutual friend, both performed in Scientists of Sound whom went on to great critical acclaim. In 1996 they released '144 or Bust The Replenishing', which went on to become what many Hip-Hop heads claim to be a lost Hip-Hop Classic. SOS had toured with some of the best MC's and Hip-hop Groups including Busta Rhymes, The Wu Tang Klan, Lords of Da Undaground, Redman, EPMD and Tony Touch.

With EP 1 the first in a series of releases featuring a host of stars alongside some of the hottest talent in the UK Urban Scene expect more to come form Dubwiser Dancehall in the next year.
