‘Diamond Sox’ Gets BBC Attention, Notis To Release New Compilation

PRISM MARKETING CONSULTANTS || JANUARY 22, 2015 || Touted as one of the biggest hits of last year by several industry practitioners, the Notis Records produced ‘Diamond Sox’ continues to gain traction on the international music space. Performed by Rastafarian crooner Iba Mahr the chart topping single was recently added to the playlist of British based radio outlet BBC 1Xtra, quickly catapulting it into a favourite among the Reggae-loving populous. The song is also featured on a plethora of charts across the globe and also spawned a remix featuring Tarrus Riley.

Despite the evident decline in worldwide sales of Reggae music, Notis Records continues to bank their buck on the genre citing that songs such as ‘Diamond Sox’ encapsulates the authenticity of Jamaican roots culture amid having longevity hence even though being released last year the single continued to experience upward mobility. Similar sentiments were also echoed by Iba Mahr.

Connoisseurs of their craft the rhythm duo consisting of Wayne ‘Unga’ Thompson and Jason ‘Big Bass’ Welsh is set to unravel their latest project next week dubbed the ‘Kingston 8 Riddim’, the follow-up to ‘Diamond Sox’ and ‘Gimmie Likkle’, the latter performed by Jesse Royal. The compilation will feature a cadre of hit makers such as: Kabaka Pyramind, Konshens, Bugle, Iba Mahr, Chevaughn, Ras Penco, Delus and newcomer A-Game.

When quizzed about the inspiration behind the project name, Unga in a statement to the Media said,

“The naming of the rhythm ‘Kingston 8’ was in dedication to the previous location of their production house and the birthplace of the rhythm itself.”

Since expanding into new ventures, Notis which doubles as a live band has released a new single titled; ‘Put Your Trust in Jah’ featured on the aforementioned. The band’s first performance was ‘Gungo Walk’ at The Edna Manley School of Arts followed by a scintillating set at ‘Wickie Wackie’ Live. The group will next perform at the much publicized Reggae Month showcase on February 17th and 18th.

The ‘Kingston 8 Riddim’ compilation set for official release on Tuesday February 3rd will be distributed by Hapilos 21st Distribution via iTunes and other digital platforms.
