Dancehall/Reggae Artiste, Don't Get Rob By Your Manager/Agent.
Here are some facts that you as an artist should know when you are booked for an event thru an agent or manager.
The All In One Budget ever heard of it?.All In One Budjet
- Is when a promoter/event organizer book an artist and pay one fee to cover all the artist's expense upfront. The artist is responsible for booking flights, Hotel Room/rooms, food and another form of transportation from the contracted amount charged.
If a show/event was booked thru your manager/agent they are going to collect between 10-20% from that fee. That same manager or agent most times also accompany you the artist to the event or on the tour. You will still be paying for his flights, hotel room and Per diem
. Even thou he/she already collected 10-20% from the fee the promoter/event organizer already paid.
Here is another scenario
You are going on tour and the entire tour was booked for $200,000USD. Your manager/agent is going to take his/her 10% which is $20,000USD.
You have band members, back up singers and that same manager/agent is coming on tour with you. From your $180,000 you will have to pay for flights, hotel room and Per diem
for all parties. At the end of the tour you might just take home $10,000USD, while your manager/agent got $20,000USD.
How do you work around this scam, when signing a contract with a manager/agent only pay them off your performance fee.
Be the boss not the employee.
