Dancehall Queen Viviane Nomakanjani said she's not a hooker

Dancehall Queen Viviane Nomakanjani this week threatened to quit music if fans continue to spread what she termed “malicious rumours” about her.


The Tsholotsho-born Viviane has, since the launch of her solo career last year, made waves in both Bulawayo and Harare, where she has held several shows.

Her debut album, Nomakanjani, which she followed-up with a duet single with fellow House-Kwasa hit-maker, Zee, was a hit both in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

“I am not against the idea of people speaking their mind on musicians because we are public figures who should lead an exemplary lifestyle, but I hate it when such talk is based on mere speculation and malicious rumours that are meant to destroy an artist,” fumed the dancer, seen as tough competition to Sandra Ndebele.

“In the short period that I have been a solo artist, some people have come up with several negative stories about me that are only meant to soil my image. I have even pondered quitting music because of this. I think it all follows stereotypes of being a female singer in the dancehall category. I appeal to my fans not to listen to these rumours because they are entirely not true. I do not sleep around. I have a steady relationship that I hope will result in me tying the knot soon,” she said.
