Dancehall artiste Shana S determined to carve out her own legacy in music
Shana S' musical ambitions are as bold and captivating as her voice whenever she sings. It is something that the ever-smiling singjay seems determined to share with the world.
She was born in Portland and first realised her strong liking for music at age 12 when she would normally sing for her schoolmates during break periods in high school.
touching the souls
The artiste, real name Shana Simpson, started her music professionally in 2002 with the aim of touching the souls of those she come across. And in 2004, when she released Nah Back Dung, she did just that.
The song, produced by Ricky Myrie, was done on the 'Top Seed' rhythm, which also featured Bounty Killer, Sizzla, Cobra, and Vybz Kartel, to name a few.
Fast-forward to this year, and Shana S, who was once called Sexy S, has renewed optimism after she released three songs, which have been generating much airplay here and in England, Africa, and the Caribbean.
The songs, Permission Granted, Rare Diamond, and Your Love, which features Sizzla, are doing well in key reggae and dancehall circles and are fast setting the beautiful songbird on her way to realising those ambitions.
She is also doing well with Lip Gloss, which boasts a music video that was directed by her and shot by Ric Root Visionz.
"I am grateful because people somehow find a way to recognise me as an artiste. It is not so much a challenge, but for me to just keep producing songs of this quality," she said.
All of Shana S' music can be found on iTunes.
