Denve Jacobs and the Rockstone Band
by Janet Davis
Rockstone is a South African based Reggae Band who started in 2000 in a shed in their hometown Ceres with minimal equipment, a 4-piece drum set, one rhythm guitar, one bass guitar and a microphone.
The band came together against all odds as they all shared the same vision and love for music and were very compassionate towards their own ability as musicians. They would spend every opportunity rehearsing and working to perfection. They found inspiration along the rivers in the picturesque Mountainsides in Ceres and spent many hours writing and making music with their acoustic guitars and bongos surrounded by the beauty of nature. It has been said that their music is soothing to one’s mind and soul like the sounds and flows of a river.
In 2001 African Reggae CC started to promote the band at one of the two big Reggae festivals that takes place each year in Cape Town “Monwabezi Reggae Festival” and was also the band’s first performance at a big Reggae festival and shared the stage amongst some elite and legendary local Reggae musicians and bands such as Azania. The band captivated the audience with its charismatic performance and their own style of reggae Music.
This performance opened the vanguard of a new fan base and invitations to perform at other big festivals and events, namely, “Sunny Ocean Reggae Festival” which is one of the most successful and popular festivals in South Africa.
From these humble beginnings, Denve Jacobs and The Rockstone Band have gone from strength to strength. Their cd "Madiba Love" has been an outstanding success.
The band have recently collaborated with Jamaican artiste Jah Rooti and their single "Blessings" is due for release in the very near future and will without a doubt give them worldwide recognition.
Always writing, recording and performing at live gigs, Denve Jacobs and The Rockstone Band will be in the public eye for many years to come with continued success.
