A working relationship, for more than 18 months, that was based on a handshake, was made official recently when rising singer Asfa signed a management contract with veteran artiste manager/ producer Roger Grant.
Since joining forces with Grant, Asfa has made a dramatic entrance into the musical arena with the number-one song, Not The Life.
Asfa's debut single, Not The Life showed up on the New York Top 30 Reggae Chart and the South Florida Top 25 Reggae Charts as well as other charts in Holland and Australia.
Asfa was also delighted to have his first EP, Take A Look, on his own Jecoliah Entertainment Production, being distributed by VP subsidiary VPAL, and having his hit single included in the top-selling various artistes compilation, Question Riddim, album.
Grant is the head of Philadelphia-based 619 Entertainment Group and is popularly known as the founder of Organic Records as far back as 1999.
When Grant started Organic, he released singles by Fourth Street Sisters, Big Mountain and Sanchez. The label, however, became synonymous with the career of Guyanese reggae star Natural Blacks who gave it hits, Songs With Feeling and Bad Mind.
Grant subsequently became Natural Blacks' manager and steered him towards international recognition.
Asfa believes Grant is experienced enough to take him beyond what he achieved with Blacks.
An added bonus is the fact that Grant and another partner, Benton Patrick Dunn, are also working with Asfa as producers to complete his debut album, Journeying, due for arrival later this year.
Asfa commented on the latest development in his career.
"I know it was imperative to secure a manager before venturing out. This is a new day in my life as an artiste and I'm excited about the endless possibilities that are ahead of us."
