Rooby Man - Haitian Reggae music star

Rooby Man - Multi-award nominated and winner of the Chicago Music Award’s Best Reggae Entertainer of the Year, Roobens Steve Dieujuste, is often described as expressive, innovative, energetic and rousing.

With striking afro-Caribbean features, unique lyrical style and a seductive stage presence, he mesmerizes his audiences.

Rooby hails from the Caribbean island of Haiti.

As a pre-teen, Rooby Man recognized his artistry through his affinity for music. He rose to national recognition when he was asked to join the Haitian boy band, King of Kings. A few years later he and the King of Kings ruled the streets, moved the crowds and rocked stages across Haiti, earning the title of Best New Hip-Hop/ Reggae Group. They performed for hundreds of thousands (locals and tourists) and were also crowned at Carnival as the Most Popular Artiste, in the youth category.

Eventually, the group disbanded shortly before he migrated to Chicago, USA. Almost immediately, he was asked to join a local Chicago band, Sakad, (later renamed D-Lux). Rooby, as lead singer of this Kompa band, fused a style almost unknown to the region, Hip-Hop mixed with Dancehall, thus complementing the Chicago Hip-Hop street culture, whilst incorporating an island flavour. The band gained a huge following but Rooby desired to pursue a solo career. This became a reality just a few years later.

Since launching a solo career and signing with Management group, Street Fame Music Group, he has written, co-produced and recorded countless tracks. He has performed many of these, including his hit single “Showtime”, at venues throughout the Chicago-land area. He has collaborated with other local artistes and was featured on VH1’s The Hungriest Rapper in Chicago.

Another highlight of his career was performing as the opening act for Chicago’s own R. Kelly at the 12 Play Exclusive All White Affair with Jive Record’s artiste, John Blu.

In January, 2012, Rooby won the award for Best Reggae Entertainer of the Year at the Chicago Music Awards. He performed at over 80 events in 2011 which substantiated his claim for this award. In March, 2012, he was nominated for the highly coveted IRAWMA award in the category of Entertainer of the Year. IRAWMA is one of the most prestigious award programmes in the world of Reggae music.

Currently he is working on the promotions for his latest single entitled “Punishment”, which was released in March, 2012. With his unique amalgamation of Hip-Hop, Dancehall and Pop, Rooby Man is poised to change the landscape of the music industry.
