Rondell Positive ‘The Reggae Worshipper’

Stirring Christians to Worship and Unbelievers to Transformation

Just one glance at Rondell Positive and the word “simple” comes to mind. Silent and unassuming yet the essence of a powerful energy is felt whenever he enters a room.

Words as wise as King Solomon’s and lyrics to follow suit, this former
sound selector, now married father of two is creating waves in both the
worlds of Reggae and Gospel Music.

With Elise Kelly, proclaimed disc jock of Jamaica’s Premiere Reggae Radio
Station, IRIE FM singing his praises, she is stunned by both his experiences and his work. One thing remains true about this elementary
school teacher – He knows his God.

Creating waves on a recent interview with Kelly at the station– he shocked the Rastafarian influenced listenership with a message laced with love and respect, simply by sharing his life’s story and all that God has done; The result? – A never before seen incident in the station’s history, phone lines jammed for the little over an hour which he spoke, e-mails steadily pouring in as listeners across the globe embraced his music and his message. They all wanted to know the same thing – who is this man and where can I buy his music?

This music translates to the 2012 critically acclaimed album “Sticks Nor Stones: Reggae Worship”. A debut effort five years in the making, it has placed him on the list of Reggae’s finest. Crossing boarders and reaching hearts, it has has earned him a worldwide distribution deal with Reggae Giant VP records – the first debut album of any Reggae Gospel Artiste to ever accomplish this feat.

Rondell is quick to point out however that the goal of his music is much more than entertainment – it’s about spiritual sustenance, knowing the depth of who God is and the power we have as believers in Christ. As Rondell puts it “We all have problems, but Christians have hope and help to overcome them.” His desire is to inspire the world to celebrate God’s love and to stir them to pursue deeper fellowship with the heavenly Father.

Spiritual Sustenance is profound but can he deliver on stage? The answer is yes. In 2005, long before his days behind the studio mic, he caught the attention of then Tourism Minister Aloun Assamba while singing with a friend on a final year vocal showcase at The Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.

Since then, the singer, born in Long Bay, Portland on February 5, 1978
has honed his craft, becoming an energetic and engaging performer
sharing stages with some of the best Jamaica and the world has to offer.

Multiple Grammy Award winner Kirk Franklin, The beloved Junior Tucker and Gospel Energy king Papa San are but a few of the great artistes Rondell has been blessed to perform alongside on the same stage – that
stage was one of Jamaica’s Premiere Summer Gospel Festivals ‘Fun in the Son’ in July 2012. Over 100,000 patrons strong, the crowd rocked to the soothing sound of his music in Jamaica’s historic Fiftieth Year Independence Celebration.

A far cry from his turntable days; In the late 1990’s he went by DJ Slaughter, quickly rising through the ranks as a popular dancehall selector. A natural God-given talent for mixing as well as songwriting as he would find out later on, nothing was safe from his commentary including the church and Christians themselves. Ordering gun salutes and instructing patrons to do deadly fire walk practices were the order of his day. A then womanizer, he was forced to seek God when He had nowhere else to run – this He says was the turning point in his life accepting salvation and marrying his wife, who also got saved in 2002.

Rondell has since seen God work in mind-bogging ways. Convinced of Christ being the answer he accepted the call of Salvation today proudly declaring himself as a Son of God.

With accolades and credits growing with each song released, he’s compared to the likes of Peter Tosh, Bob Marley and Buju Banton, continuously turning heads as his brand of “Reggae Worship” reaches the masses. With philanthropic efforts pursued, hosting an annual charity show “Heart Praise Gospel Fest” in St. Thomas, Jamaica, he doubles as the spokesperson for Coalition for Jamaica seeking to assist needy children in Christmas with their treat “Toys for Tots” making his way into the Hall Of Fame for the greats.

The world is paying attention. Now it’s your turn.
