Reggae Artiste Luciano reapplies for US work permit

Reggae singer Luciano will be reapplying for his US work permit next month, and he remains confident that it will be reinstated given the legal advice by a team of lawyers and immigration consultants.

Two weeks ago, Luciano was in Canada and on his way to Amsterdam via connecting flight through New York, when the reggae singer was interrogated and his hand luggage searched. This resulted in an immigration officer revoking his permission to travel to and work in the United States.

Since that time Luciano has been forced to cancel a number of his bookings in the United States. Luciano took a heavy financial hit, returning over US$40,000 in deposits.

The singer has been using the medication for some time, and that immigration officers in Canada and California have both cleared the artist in the past.

REGGAE SINGER AWAITS SENTENCING ON GANJA CHARGE
KINGSTON, JAMAICA: REGGAE singer Luciano will have to return to a Magistrate's Court here on Friday to be sentenced for possession of marijuana.

Luciano, whose real name is Jepther McLymont, was due to be sentenced Monday but was set back as the forensic report, which would state the correct amount of banned vegetable matter the singer had in his possession, was not ready.

Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle, who is presiding over the matter, decided to delay sentencing and wait on the forensic certificate so that the exact amount of ganja that the singer was held with could be ascertained.

"We should wait on the certificate in the interest of justice. I want to be sure that when I sentence a person, they get fair justice from the court. It is only fair to him," RM Gayle said. The magistrate also ordered that the forensic certificate be ready for the court's use by Friday when the case is next before the court. RM Gayle also extended the singer's bail until that time.

Luciano was held with a small amount of ganja in his luggage as he attempted to board a flight to New York, on May 23, this year. He had last week pleaded guilty to the charge.

Yesterday, he appeared in a khaki outfit, bedecked with red, gold, green and black epaulettes. Luciano's manager, Copeland Forbes, along with saxophonist Dean Fraser and singer Mikey General, as well as other relatives and friends, came out to give the singer moral support.

He is being represented by attorney Hugh Wilson.
