Melo Hustle EP - Melo Music Production

Melo Hustle EP - Canada-based Dancehall Reggae Artist, Melo, born Cassius White on the 1st of September 1975 in Linstead, St. Catherine on the island of Jamaica, is aiming for stardom with his unique style and lyricism.

Melo migrated to Canada in 1988 as a teenager and got started in the music business during high school in Toronto. He started out as a DJ for a then popular local sound system called Black Magic. Later on, he tested the waters as an artist and became active in a community clash where he won his first trophy for “Best Upcoming Reggae Artist” in Toronto.

Throughout the years after finishing school, Melo became an entrepreneur, learning about the music business and making the right connections. He began recording music professionally, honing his craft and understanding how to market himself to a much younger audience, despite his age. He met Elgoba of Smoke Shop Studioz and teamed up to record a slew of hits from Melo.

His first official mixed single, recorded in 2011, was "Smoking High Grade" on the Hang Ova Riddim, which featured several Canada-based Reggae artists and a then unknown Alkaline. Officially, the compilation was released on May 14, 2013 on iTunes. In 2012, Melo was featured on another Smoke Shop Productionz riddim called Summer Hype, which was self-proclaimed as Toronto's Hypest Summer Riddim, with Melo's track titled "Summa Tyme", a tribute to Jamaica's 50th Independence. However, the compilation was released the following year, on July 26, 2013. Also in 2012, he released another single called "Move Up Yuh Body" on the Skelleon Riddim.

The team up with Smoke Shop Studioz proved rewarding, evidence that he needed to continue working with them, therefore, Melo continued to, recording on most of their riddim compilations from then on. He then collaborated with Elgoba on the track called "Girl Come Put It On Me" on the Sour Sop Riddim, in January 2012. The riddim also featured Alkaline and another Elgoba collaboration with Tiffany Malvo.

Although Melo has reeled out hits after hits with Smoke Shop Productionz, he is an independent artist who has worked with other record labels such as Rhome Records. The DJ Rhome-led label, based in Jamaica, has produced songs such as “Pretty” on the Life Triangle Riddim. It was released on June 13, 2014. In 2015, Melo started his own label called Melo Music Production and began working on his first EP. He released “The Kush EP” under his label, with digital distribution via 21st Hapilos Digital on April 21, 2015 after signing a distribution deal with the Jamaica-based company. It features singles like “Drop It” and “Pretty” but the numbers were low in sales. Because Melo knew it could have done better, he went back to the drawing board and didn't hesitate to start recording again immediately.

Melo recouped and recorded the single “Bun Up” under his label, releasing it on the 11th of December 2015 to close out the year. Then as the new year rang in, Melo turned up the heat with singles “The Trumpet” and “In Love With The Money” both on January 15, 2016. All three songs were recorded at Smoke Shop Studioz and distributed online by 21st Hapilos.

Not pausing for a second, Melo never stopped working throughout 2016. He did several appearances throughout Canada, maintaining his title as the "Best Upcoming Artist” with hardcore promotions in the streets. He put visuals to some of his singles with videos for songs like “Lie Dem A Tell” and “In A War”, both of which were uploaded to YouTube in 2016. He made sure to keep recording including singles like “Hustle” in late 2016.

At the start of 2017, Melo began putting together his second EP titled “Hustle”, slated to be released on June 30. It features girl tunes like “Wine Up Yuh Body” featuring Ziggy Eva Strap, “Wine Up” featuring Smokeshop and “Bubble and Wine”. The lead single, “Hustle”, was produced by Smoke Shop Productionz and already has a video for it. Directed by Goldmine Media, it was shot in various locations in West Toronto, mainly on Arlington Avenue, Oakwood and Eglington. His intention is to do videos for a couple of other songs off the EP later on in the year, with somewhat of a continuation from where the end of the “Hustle” video left off.

Even as an upcoming artist and songwriter, Melo has seen some success. Some of his accomplishments thus far include opening shows for the likes of Sizzla, Capleton, Gyptian and I Wayne. It hasn't been an easy road for Melo, but he will never give up.
