Kartel to Pay $15million for breach of contract
Vybz Kartel faces more Legal woes after he was order to pay $15million to promoter Alton Salmon for breach of contract today December 16, 2011.
Kartel is in police custody for 2 murder charges as well as ganja possession and perversion.
It is reported that Kartel should have performed at a concert in the Turks and Caicos Islands in August 2009 but he breached the agreement.
Salmon, who operates under the business name “Abuka Entertainment”, says he and Kartel entered into an oral agreement in July 2009 for him to pay Kartel US $18,000 to preform at the concert.
Salmon said he paid Kartel a deposit of US $8,500. It was agreed that at the end of the show on August 14, 2009, Kartel would be paid the balance.
Salmon said the arrangement was also for him to pay for airline tickets and provide hotel accommodation for Kartel and his entourage.
Salmon says he honoured his part of the agreement but Kartel did not turn up for the show.
The promoter says some of the tickets were presold and due to Kartel’s absence, the show was cancelled. He said this caused patrons at the venue to start a riot.
A default judgement was entered in the case because Kartel did not respond to the suit.
Justice Martin Gayle assessed damages and made the award of $15million, for loss of profit and damaged reputation. READ MORE ABOUT VYBZ KARTEL
