Jah Snowcone banks on Popcaan, Ivy Layne Collab

Popcaan

Billboard-charting Jamaican producer Rohan 'Jah Snowcone' Fuller is banking on the high-powered collaboration dubbed 'One You Love' between pop artiste Ivy Layne and consummate hitmaker Popcaan.

"We felt that Popcaan would be the best artiste for Ivy Layne to collaborate with on One You Love," Snowcone said, noting that music video that was shot in Portland will be released this weekend.

In 2005, Snowcone scored a major hit, Temperature, from Sean Paul's The Trinity album. The song earned a Billboard award for Hot 100 Single of the Year. Snowcone also received an American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Award.

He has also had hits with the likes of Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Bling Dawg, Capleton and Spragga Benz.

Fast-forward 12 years later, and he has teamed up with US-based former Haitian supermodel-turned-music mogul, Tyrone Edmund, to create a new label set to change the landscape of dancehall fusion and reggae-inspired beats.

The label, Cape Republic Records, was officially launched earlier this year in the United States, and will focus on artiste branding and development.

Already the label has signed a talented young international star, Ivy Layne, that both Tyrone and Snowcone believe will turn heads and top charts this year.

 Potential

"Jamaican producers have the potential to create international projects that can top the charts anywhere. International artistes have tapped into using dancehall because it is the best sound around the world.

We just have to be positioned in the right places and get exposed to the right markets. Cape Republic Records will be the label to show the world how talented Caribbean producers actually are," Snowcone asserted.

Snowcone is also confident that his team can propel Jamaican projects on an international platform that can compete with current US-based productions that are influenced by dancehall.

"The single (One You Love) was number one downloaded song on the All Access music group website, beating out a Katy Perry-Nicki Minaj collab. We are up to 100 spins a week on American radio with 82 per cent of disc jocks serviced supporting it.

Local stations have also picked up the song. We are also working the single in Europe and Jamaica. Ivy Layne epitomises Cape Republic Record's multicultural sound direction, with the looks, the sound and the moves.

She is going to shake up things," a confident Snowcone said.
