INTRODUCING 3 IN 1THE NEW REGGAE GROUP ON THE RISE

by Dane Findley
(Kingston , Jamaica)

Fitzroy, Desmond and Patrick Johnson are identical triplets and reggae artists; they are known as 3-in-1. The triplets were raised in Jamaica by their grandmother, in the parish of Portland. Their beloved grandmother, who they called Aunt Martha, inspired their first album and the title track ‘Mama’ and was heavily influenced by Aunt Martha’s struggle to raise triplets, single-handed. Mama is a dedication to their grandmother’s devotion to raising the triplets and the hardships she endured in the process.

Growing up in Jamaica the boys were surrounded by reggae music, which they developed a passion for from a very early age, particularly Dancehall. Musically they were influenced by such artists as Lieutenant Stitchie, Papa San, Professor Nuts and Yellow Man. Their grandmother gave them a very strict upbringing which included not being allowed to attend dances; but the boys loved the Dancehall scene, so used to sneak out at night to go to dances and would perform any time they were given the opportunity.

Aunt Martha became concerned about the direction the boys were heading and how they were being influenced, so reluctantly, she sent them to England to live with their parents. Their love for reggae and performing did not diminish and neither did their ambition. They continued writing and performing in order to improve themselves as artists and now construct their own rhythms, which other vocal artist have performed to and which they themselves produced at their recording studio in London. They have also travelled back and forth from England to Jamaica over the years and recorded several tracks at King Jammies Studio in Kingston, Jamaica.
