Dancehall artiste Ricky Carty hits back at church critics
Controversial dancehall artiste Ricky Carty, who opened the floodgates for critics recently with one of the most explicit music videos in dancehall, has released a more positive single.
The single, Sure Love, is poised to create a positive vibration for the artiste as he seeks to mute his doubters.
Ricky Carty has also rebuffed the stance of the Christian Brethren Assemblies of Jamaica (CBAJ), who recently bashed him for what they called promoting "sexual and moral depravity that has eroded basic concepts or respect, dignity and discipline from our culture".
The Christian group also stated that the authorities should put an end to what it claims are "controversial music videos" laced with strong sexual images, including group orgies, lesbian simulation, and oral sex.
In response, Ricky Carty said, "Even among the church dignitaries, they are doing far lewder acts. People who go to the church for assistance, they take advantage of them because no one will know. When it comes on to Ricky Carty and his video, he is not doing anything strange or ludicrous."
He added that he has other positive songs which are not being highlighted.
"It's nothing we haven't seen, many artistes have positive music, even I myself have positive music releasing shortly, but they don't highlight that. They didn't do a press release thanking these artistes about their positive work in helping the youth and helping to build the country. They try to beat down and belittle artistes getting a buzz, and it is very strange," said Ricky Carty
