Akaline's US Visa Still Safe

Fans of dancehall artiste Alkaline were left shocked on Monday after news that his United States visa had been revoked surfaced online.

Various websites which carried the news report said that the entertainer was the most recent Jamaican act to have his travel documents taken away by the United States Embassy allegedly over lyrics from one of his latest tracks. The track Save Yourself, that is yet to be officially released. According to these websites, the song is politically charged and incites violence against homosexuals.

Alkaline's management, however, dispelled those claims. Kereena Beckford, the entertainer's sister and manager, told THE STAR that the false news is just a ploy by some individuals to create unnecessary drama.

"It's all rumours," she said. "This is just something created by some unknown people who want to start something. Alkaline is not having any immigration issues anywhere. Right now, he's in Germany and he'll be leaving from there to go to London and then Canada, and all his visas are in tact."

She went on to explain that this rumour is just the latest in a series of rumours set up to damage the entertainer's image.

RUMOURS

"This is just the latest of the many rumours out there. They had one claiming he was banned from some countries and that was also not true because Alkaline has never been banned from any country. He's doing well and is happy with the support he's been getting from his fans all over the world," Beckford told THE STAR.

She also explained that Alkaline is currently focused on releasing the hard copy version of his chart-topping album, New Level Unlocked.

"We don't have a release date set yet, but fans can look out for the print (CD) release of the album really soon. Alkaline is happy with the support he has received on this project, and looks forward to continue sharing his music with the world," she said.

New Level Unlocked was released online in March and it made headlines in April as the song reached the number one spot on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart. That accomplishment made Alkaline the first dancehall artiste since 2011 to take the top spot on the chart.
